KB5035942 and KB5036035 were both available as updates on my Windows 11 PCs. I installed them on two devices successfully, but on one device KB5036035 got stuck at downloading 98% for hours. KB5035942 installed fine.

As the second KB got stuck, I restarted the device and it said 'installing updates' and then I noticed KB5036035 was available again and downloaded and installed fine with a further restart.

The problem is, I cannot find KB5035942 listed in Windows Update history as installed today like on all my other PCs or available to uninstall.

I can see though that it has I think been installed through reliability history.

How do I know if this KB has been installed correctly and do I need to be concerned that it's not showing in Windows Update history or available to uninstall?

Hi:

These are both "PREVIEW" updates.

https://www.elevenforum.com/t/kb5035942-windows-11-cumulative-update-preview-build-22621-3374-22h2-and-22631-3374-23h2.23843/

https://www.elevenforum.com/t/kb5036035-cumulative-update-preview-net-framework-3-5-and-4-8-1-23h2.23844/

So, you don't need either of them.

Just wait for the relevant bits to be incorporated into the next monthly, "Patch Tuesday" updates.

As a general rule for home users, unless you like to "beta test" unstable software, there's no need to install Preview Updates.

And I certainly would not do so on my main production box unless I had a robust system imaging routine that would allow undoing the changes if the updates go pear-shaped.

Just my two cents and worth less

Since the update did not go in would suggest that you run from a Administrator  Command Prompt : SFC /SCANNOW to fix any system errors may have and to prepare for next month.

As well make sure your drive has 15 % or more free at all times.

Clean up your System using Disk CleanUp since 1995 from the Start Menu.  Then run it again and Click on Clean System Files.

The Microsoft Store is now a integral part of Updating Windows 11.     Open the MS Store and go down the left side to Library and Update what you use.

And consider the Windows 11 Update Troubleshooter:

https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/windows-update-troubleshooter-19bc41ca-ad72-ae67-af3c-89ce169755dd#WindowsVersion=Windows_11

If none of the above suggestions resolves your issue, we may need to request additional information about your system, with some diagnostic logs....

Thank you, I have already done what you suggested. Reliability history is showing as the KB has been installed I think though?

Thank you. I think it is installed as I can see it on PowerShell under command HotFix (KB) , but Im just not sure if I should be worried that its not showing under Windows Update history. Could it have been a minor technical issue?

Thanks for the update.

Since it's a Preview Update, I would not worry about it.

A future, regular, monthly update will supercede it.

If you're determined to take further action before then, then I suppose you could run the Win 11 Windows Update troubleshooter or (more drastic) reset Windows Update:

Edit for typo

Note : there is no need to use the Quote All Box it is a left over of  days gone by. use the Quote Tool in the Toolbar if needed to draw attention to a specific or can use proper English " "

@MoxieMomma

Does the Drastic still delete all the update info out of Update History ??  Been years since I have done or recommended that one.
