A couple of days ago, s "Copilot" icon appeared in my System Tray. I finally got rid of it using a registry hack. So today, after working on my computer for a few hours, I left it and when I came back I see a white Copilot toolbar along the right side of my screen. The tool bar contains seven icons that I absolutely and do not need and positively do not want. I don't need this kind of "built for kiddies" irritation.

When I click the 3-dot icon at the bottom I see that "Customize sidebar > Always show sidebar" is disabled and I can't figure out why the sidebar still appears.

Copilot always appears along with Edge - another gimmick I neither need nor want - so it would be nice if I could disable Edge too.

How can I get rid of all traces of Copilot?

Short answer:

You probably cannot (without breaking Windows).

Long answer:

Copilot has many dependencies with Edge and Edge (like Internet Explorer before it) has many dependencies deep in the Windows OS.
You can (try to) disable it or to disable/hide its taskbar icon.
Beyond that, it's safest to just ignore it.
If you (try to) remove it, you may damage the OS.

Having said that, YouTube is replete with videos: use them at your own risk.

But have a look at these:

This should work for Win10 or 11:

That's not a Copilot toolbar because such a thing doesn't exist. What you're seeing sounds very much like a detached Microsoft Edge Sidebar.

Have a read here, and if the first screenshot shows what you're seeing then follow the instructions.

Sadly co-pilot is baked in.

The right hand always on toolbar sounds like you enabled co-pilot in Edge. Open Edge and turn it off.
